Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose Upward?

At Upward, we offer one-on-one 50 minute PT sessions offered by Dr. Anna Friedman and Dr. Jenny Iyo. No aides, no assistants, just excellent care from a highly skilled provider. We work to bridge the gap between PT, performance and wellness, and believe that a holistic approach to health is the key to long term success in meeting and exceeding your goals. We believe that prevention is just as important as recovery, and that everyone who has a primary care provider they see for an annual physical should also have their go-to PT to address all of their musculoskeletal and wellness needs throughout the lifespan.

What are you doing to prevent the spread of COVID-19?

We take your safety and health very seriously. Everyone who enters our building is required to wear a mask, have their temperature taken, and answer a series of screening questions prior to entry.

If you are feeling sick, feverish, short of breath, have a persistent cough, or have been in contact with anyone who has tested positive in the past 2 weeks, please stay home.

We also offer concierge visits to your home and telehealth sessions, so you can feel as safe and comfortable as possible (not to mention the convenience of having us come to you!).

Do you take insurance?

Health care costs and coverage can be so confusing. We try to simplify it for you as much as possible.

Yes, we accept all major insurance providers, and will bill your insurance for physical therapy services. We will check your insurance benefits prior to your first visit so you are aware of what your coverage looks like. We will collect co-pays and payment towards your deductible before or at time of service. If we are out of network with your insurance, we offer a discounted cash rate.

Performance and wellness services are typically not covered by insurance, so we offer individual sessions and packages depending on your goals and needs. HSA/FSA accounts often do cover performance and wellness services.

Can I use my HSA/FSA account to cover services?

Yes! Typically, you can use your HSA or FSA card before or at time of service to cover out of network PT, performance and wellness costs. We will also give you a super bill which you can then submit for reimbursement for out of network benefits as well.

Do I need a referral from my doctor?

Many insurances do not require a referral for physical therapy in Washington State, however it’s always good to get one if you can to make reimbursement easier. Many times, all it takes is a quick phone call or telehealth visit with your physician, and they can easily send a referral to you.

What is performance coaching?

Are you just getting into running, or decided that this is the year you will try backpacking or even climb Mt. Rainier? Without adequate preparation and training, it is easy to get sidelined halfway through or come away with an injury. Dr. Anna has years of experience both participating in and working with individuals (first timers and veterans alike) who want to elevate their game and explore the great outdoors.

Through movement analysis, goal setting and personalized weekly training plans, she can help give you the extra boost you need to achieve your goals on the road or trail and avoid common pitfalls that can hinder success.

What is wellness coaching?

Do you have trouble setting goals and following through with them? Do you want to make a change in your life but don’t know where to start? Do you find yourself in a rut of negative thought patterns that your can’t seem to break? Maybe you have trouble self motivating, and just need someone to give you a little guidance along the way. This is where the help of a wellness coach comes in.

Dr. Anna offers a personalized approach to your health and well being, and will work closely with you to give you strategies and tools to help you succeed and live your life to the fullest.

How should I prepare for my first visit?

Prior to your first visit, please sign up on the Patient Portal and fill out our intake paperwork. Also come prepared with any specific goals and questions you would like addressed. This way, we can get started right away and get the most out of our time together.

If you are seeing us for a lower extremity issue, please bring shorts with you on your first visit. Please arrive wearing a mask as well.

How do mobile visits work?

That’s right, we come to YOU! Just had surgery? Don’t want to lug the kiddos around? Or just more comfy at home? No sweat, I’ve got you covered. We’re happy to meet you right at home and provide you with the same high quality care you’d receive when you come to the clinic…without the commute. All clients interested in mobile services will be carefully screened prior to their first home session to ensure safety and comfort.

How does telehealth work?

We offer 30 and 60 minute virtual PT and wellness coaching sessions to make things convenient and keep you safe. Due to the Washington Emergency Order, telehealth services are now covered by most insurance companies.
